DigiOn Network Activation Service (DiNAS)
Network Activation Service for Building DRM Environment with Lower Cost
Using content protection mechanisms, such as Marlin DRM and DTCP-IP, requires embedding unique data called "device key" into every device. DigiOn offers a network activation service which provides device keys to devices via the Internet to activate DTCP-IP and Marlin DRM features. If your devices are PCs, it would be too costly to mount hard disk images in which unique device keys are embedded to all devices. However this service will install device keys in devices automatically via the Internet when end users use the functionality; therefore manufactures can provide their software supporting DTCP-IP or Marlin DRM to end users with lower cost.
DiNAS Features
- Distribute Device Keys Securely
- Secure communication path is prepared between the DiNAS center built on iDC (Internet Data Center) and end users’ devices. In addition using client authentication with a certificate prevents from unauthorized device key acquisitions by impersonations, etc.
- Control by Version Management
- Controlling activation by managing application version is available. e.g. The Center settings do not allow activation if an application has not applied updates for security reasons and is not up-to-date.
- Fault Tolerance by Redundant Configuration / High Availability
- Fault tolerance by hardware’s redundant configuration and load balancing and high availability by load balancer are guaranteed.
- Operate 24 Hours a Day, 365 Days a Year
- This service is operated by iDC 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; end users can perform activation anytime they start using their applications.
Structure

- DiNAS client module and digital certificate issued by DigiOn will be embedded into a DRM enabled application for performing activation. They are used for the authentication with DiNAS center’s activation server.
- DiNAS client module sends an activation request to DiNAS center server via the Internet. Then the center determines if the request is from a correct client.
- DiNAS center server encrypts information required for activation and sends it to DiNAS client module when receiving a correct request. DiNAS client module saves the activation information securely, and enables the DRM feature.
- DiNAS Center Server (Network Activation Server)
- Built on iDC to issue activation information with device key.
- DiNAS Client Module
- Software for performing activation from devices, and is embedded into software using DTCP-IP or Marlin DRM feature.
