Fukuoka, Japan -- DigiOn, Inc.has announced that its Marlin IPTV-ES module, developed for embedded terminals, has been incorporated as a standard component in the “au BOX”. The “au BOX” is an entertainment box for mobile phones and was released on Nov. 1st, 2008 by KDDI Corporation and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company.
Not limited to playback over its internal speaker of music from CDs or downloaded from mobile phones, the “au BOX” can also be used as a DVD player. Furthermore, in a broadband internet environment, music purchased via “mora for LISMO” and video from the “LISMO Video Store” are available without the use of a PC. “mora for LISMO” is a music streaming service which offers content from the major music labels, and “LISMO Video Store” is a video streaming service with approximately 5,000 movies, including blockbusters from Hollywood and popular foreign dramas. Users can enjoy purchased music and video content not only on their TVs, but anywhere they want by transferring the content to their au mobile phones.
DigiOn developed the SDKs and core modules for Marlin IPTV-ES, a digital rights management (DRMs) tool for adding value to home network products. DigiOn’s Marlin IPTV-ES module for embedded devices was ported to the “au BOX” platform; by adopting Marlin as the “au Box”’s content copy protection technology, the “au BOX” was able to allow users to enjoy a variety of content.
One of DigiOn’s technology solutions, “DiXiM” is, DigiOn’s major brand product for various home network digital devices. Marlin is an important technology for further extending the home network, the support of which DigiOn will continue to strengthen.
“Our DiXiM home network middleware products have been adopted by many customers, and we are proud of their achievements and reliability. We are continuously making efforts to extend DiXiM and its related modules. We are delighted that we had the opportunity to use the Marlin IPTV-ES technology, which has received much attention as a DRM solution for online services and IPTV, in KDDI’s project. Our hope for the Marlin IPTV-ES SDK is that it be used further by more customers to broaden the usage of premium content via the Internet.”
